6:00 am. Things have settled down. Boone is happily chewing an antler, Fen is outside now, doing something. They had breakfast, I lock Fen in his big wooden crate then feed Boone on his mat on the other side. This is their ritual because they both try to steal food then resource guard. I remember the Maremma puppies both shared a giant self feeder. They never did any RG except from the goats, chickens, and occasional lamb. They were truly an amazing pair of dogs who defied all the odds.
I digress…anyway, Fen’s crate isn’t usually locked, just closed so he can let himself out when he’s done. He just laid there this morning. Not like he was sick, but just lost, or sad. I opened the door and it was several minutes before he came out and kind of wandered aimlessly from doggy gate to the door to me and back while Boone nursed his dinosaur toy. Poor little sheppie. He climbed in Randy’s chair (he has idolized Randy since he came) and perked up when the man showed up finally. I really feel like I am missing something he is trying to tell me.
I guess will figure it out eventually Dr appt today. Both dogs coming. See what doc decides to do about my pinball condition. See if Medicare will cover Neuro. They didn’t cover last Dr appt and they hit me with $150. Not too happy about it. Life keeps harder for all of us. I’m kinda glad I’m in the home stretch but sure worry about my kids and my grands. God, give them faith and the strength they will need to go with it

Don’t feel bad about Fen preferring Randy. My first LGD, a Great Pyrenees, adored my husband. She absolutely loved him. Not me, the dog lady woh all dogs loved, nope, she loved her Daddy. She loved me some, but he was her #1.

Thanks Baymule. It’s been hard. I needed Fen’s affection so badly but nothing I do can win it. He was Randy’s dog the moment he saw him. He’s much happier since I gave up and made it official.
At least Boone loves me. I thought I had lost him tonight. Randy came chasing him out of the bedroom asking Boone to give him what was in his mouth. I said “grab a cookie. You have to buy it from him” (there are dog treats everywhere so I am always ready when I need one) Instead of offering Boone the treat, he throws the bag of treats onto the wheelchair next to where I am on the reclined sectional and walks away…meanwhile I am desperately trying to get the footrest down, but it’s electric and very slow. I am saying over and over, “get it! He’s going to swallow it!!”and he does NOTHING. Boone swallowed what he had completely and all I can think of , just days before the anniversary of Heath’s death, I am going to lose him too.
I am furious he dd not just hold out the treat, as Boone would have immediately dropped what he had.
Luckily after about 15 minutes of panicking c I remember one of the cowboy’s wife was a vet tech. She tells me to give him peroxide and thankfully he threw it up. I have never been so grateful to clean dog yak up off the carpet. I’ve also never been so pissed at my husband

Glad he will be ok. You can also use a teaspoon of salt to get them to vomit. It’s my go to for anything like that. Plus when you’re on the road every restaurant and fast food place has it! Free even. This came from the Dog Owners Veterinary Handbook 40 yrs ago. Works every time.

What did he swallow?

A compression glove. When I saw what was there before he swallowed the whole thing, I thought it was one of my long fingerless sleeves. Either way, it was pretty scary to me. With a two hour drive to the closest vet it would already be too late to get it back up without surgery. Which we can’t afford either as we just took out a loan to pay for Randy’s hip I am so grateful he’s going to be ok. He’s been such a good puppy. I wish the weather wasn’t so cold, and I could work with him more outside

Boone & Fen have been getting along famously. I have been checking Boone when he’s being rude to Fen, which he often is, pushing his way in when I am paying attention to Fen. We do a lot of treat gifting by name, which seems to have helped Boone learn he won’t get extra by trying to rob Fen.
He’s been so much better, finally continuing on with his playing on the floor while

Fen and I have our private moments.

Fen goes out and wakes him up out of his big insulated crate every morning. Then after their morning ablutions they come back in and Boone joyously throws himself onto my lap, surprisingly not heavy when he does. (Mr Potamus had this skill too. He was my 120lb lap dog ) Boone is 100% on his sits 100% on downs with luring, learning “wait” walks well on leash, loves meeting new people (so far) is friendly with other dogs outside the yard (so far) totally housetrained, and typical LGD recall He escorts me to and from chicken pen and keeps me from falling. (Wish I had taken him into pigpen to feed this morning as I had a very bad fall and hit my head on corner of pig’s hut almost knocked myself out)

I am pretty pleased with him for not yet 5 mo old
