I had written in the feed section of this forum, and I wanted to give an update. I got a baby girl and a baby boy weaned and were already eating on their own.

I know I said I would get a wether but I went ahead and got a male intact and was told I could go back and get him a companion in 2 weeks so when he becomes of age he can go into his own place with his companion and not feel lonely. So I will get 2 more in 2 weeks, another female and a male who is fixed.

The 2 new babies names are Malina and Kuzco from the cartoon of course lol I have kids and they thought this would fit and so far it has.
But Kuzco is living up to his character he is totally greedy and doesn't let the little girl have much of the feed. Starting today we fed them apart to make sure she got all she needed.

From the stress of leaving her flock, and coming to a new home she lost some weight which had me worried.

The boy has gorged him self he is a little fatty and eats everything insight.

This is Kuzco

This is the very day we got them home so she still has a tummy on her.
But now we have had them exactly 7 days and she has lost some of that over 6 days but Sunday we fixed that problem.

Kuzco I was told is Nubian Cross Boer, and Malina is Nubian Cross Alpine.

I think both are very beautiful but Malina is a little skittish while Kuzco is extremely friendly. He will not go any where without her he has to be in eye sight of her at all time both cry if they cant see each other.

But they are both a complete joy to watch.

I am so in love with them, we sit and watch them all day I don't think I have been inside for the past week longer than enough time to sleep and then get up and let them out again.

I even have to check on them a few times at night just to make sure they are ok.

Congrats to you... they are adorable.. as goats always are!

I am curious as to why you want to keep a buck? If you've already thought all this through then .. have fun. I am glad that you will be giving him a wether companion and Malina a companion also.

When rutting season begins (breeding season which lasts from roughly August to January) he will stink... really, really stink! (If not the first year... all the years after that.) If you pet him your hands will stink and it's actually hard to wash off. Anything he gets near will stink. He will pee on his own face so he'll have a yellow beard and face. He may call and call to the girls (if he can see them) and he will be really hard on the fencing as he tries to get out and get to them.... make sure the fence is REALLY secure and high enough he can't jump over it.

Some bucks get very aggressive during breeding season and you'll have to move the wether out to keep him safe... some bucks are just as gentle as can be and there are no problems. Even a normally gentle buck can become aggressive during breeding season so be aware.

I'm sure you are working on gaining Malina's trust every day. Never chase a goat, never pet them on the head (that can lead to butting issues down the road) and don't any other behavior as kids that you wouldn't want when they are full grown. To get her to be more friendly just sit near her (sounds like you've got that down :) ) and let her come to you. Don't reach for her, offer her special treats (raisens are often good ones) but let her come to you and take them. Don't grab and hold her. It may take a day, it may take a month but she's young enough that she'll come around and be as friendly as Kuzco.

Kuzcos home is very far away from our house I don't think smell will be really bad we are way out in the country in open space. Their fence is a 6 ft fence I hope that will be high enough. On one side is a 6ft privacy fence covered by a chain link fence.

Yea I also talked to my kids about not touching their heads and only petting their back and side and allowing Malina to come to us.
So far she is curious about us and has attached her self to my 15 year old son. If he leaves the Goat yard she calls him and every morning she waits for him at the door if I open the door its almost as if she is disappointed and will turn her back on me but if he opens the door she waggles her little tail and maaa amaaa. We had some watermelon, they didn't really like the watermelon but did like licking the juice off the kids hands.

The reason for getting him was so we would be able to raise him for breeding Malina when she is old enough but he will be the only male I will have. We are hoping she will give us milk to make cheese with and maybe even some soap.

But this isnt a profit thing or I would have gotten pure bred goats.
This is strictly hobby and love of goats. We are learning so much about them and I am keeping in mind that my sweet snuggle bug kuzco could turn into a stinky demon one day... I know this day will come soon and we have prepared him a well vented home with a divider in the event we need to remove the wether from his sleeping quarters. The divider is a metal door that slides splitting his area in 1/2 with a lock to keep it from moving. His area will keep him from seeing anything at all but he may still be able to hear the girls that I can't avoid.

We have neighbors 4 houses away who have about 20 goats and several male goats and I never smell them but our houses are very far apart so that may be why we never smell anything but we do smell when people release their septic tanks PU its foul smelling......
