I thought they were heating elements, now it makes sense!
There is a heating element in the center that connects directly to a solar panel on the backside. I made a waterer out of an IBC tote, but they kept ripping the nipples out and losing hundreds of gallons of water with the nipple disappearing.

We used hog nipples in 50 gallon water barrels. We also took the barrels to the Fair and the pens did not get muddy. Saw them at the Fair for the first time and immediately went home and copied them when we got hogs.
