I forgot to mention that this is the site I use for injections. They were given a CDT injection in October when they were banded. Over the winter their hair became really thick and long so I just never noticed it. Do you think that might have something to do with it?
I discovered lice on my goats - YUCK! So we've treated with Permitherin spray and wormed with Valbazen. I have read these little buggers only like goats but now I find myself itchy whenever I'm with the goats.
We decided to shave the goats down and started with one today and while I was...
So sorry....it's so hard and frustrating sometimes. The best thing to do is to learn and pass on that knowledge. I know this year has been FULL of learning for me.
I have a lamb that was born Monday morning. She was a set of twins and the ewe lost the first twin before 24 hours (I thought the ewe laid on it). She was okay (not ever great) but this morning she had yellow poop with blood tinge on her butt and leg. We brought her in and cleaned her up and...
We have been blessed with some lambs over a really miserable weekend. We so far have 2 sets of twins and 1 single. Still have 3 more ewes to go-2 of which are first timers. Guess I might start a lambing thread.
We banded our two goat wethers. We did it in November so it took longer for the sacs to "fall off" completely. They were about 6 months when we got them and one banded easier than the other (one was almost too big to fit in my bander). We also have banded our sheep. Neither have had any...
So Athena (the ewe) talks to the babies and keeps pawing at them but she won't stand still for them to nurse. We have brought them in for the night and I'm going to try to get them started on bottles. Any advice? I've had bummers before, but they had been started for a day or two before I...
This is our 2nd season of lambing. Last year we had two ewes who each had singles no problems.
Yesterday at 4:00 when I got home from work I noticed one of the ewes was in the beginning labor stages. She was laying down, grunting, getting up and so on. Kept watch on her every 2 hours...
At our fair they have an auction for the market animals. They had to make their minimum weight requirement and they are sold in the order that they place and the species are broken up. So they're will be a couple sheep, a couple hogs, a goat, a cow, then a couple more sheep and it just keeps...
We bought a pair of the Premier 4000 shears to shear our small flock ourselves. We were able to somewhat shear 2 suffolk crosses but the shears would not work on our Targhees. We ended up giving up last year and now we have a bigger mess with matts on those girls. The cutters and combs were...
If you are looking for meat production you could ask about the litters out of the rabbits you are interested in. They might be able to tell you growth rates. If you are looking for show rabbits then I would use the SOP and look at anyone related to the one's you are buying.
I can relate to your dilemma of only having one vet. We only have 1 in our area and he has warned us that he doesn't know sheep very well. It's about $150 for him just to show up so I call him first. If he doesn't think the animal is going to make it, he says so. I do appreciate that honesty...
I would try putting a lock on the door to guarantee that you are the only one breeding this rabbit. I have never experienced anything like this situation and we raised hundreds of rabbits over the years. I find it very interesting and would encourage you to let her rest between breedings and...
