Should I be scared of Valbazan???

I have a question about the wormer Valbazan. We have had goats several years and have had our fair share of trials with worms. I had been most recently using Cydectin or Dectomax to worm. I had kind of all but given up on the Ivermectin as it seemed to do nothing and I was told by a vet that...

    Goat housing, pictures anyone?

We have an actual barn for our breeding does, but our bucks have Port-A-that they use all year long and do fine. They are just the ones that are lik 8x6 or something. Some people build little A-frame huts out of scrap wood. We also built a hoop house for our girls for the summer pasture. We...

Will cream strainers work for goats milk?

I'm not real sure which type your talking about, but if it's the kind that is like a big bowl with a small circle at the bottom with holes in it, then ya, those work with goats milk. You get the filter disks that you put in the bottom and it filters dirt and hair out. :)

Cydectin injectable for new doe mom or Valbazen?

First off, let me say I'm not judging or looking to offend anyone. You have to way your options and do what you think is best for your situation. That being said; I too have struggled with the dilema on what to use. Around my parts, the white wormers and ivomec are just about useless. I have...

Help ASAP! Update page 3! Bacterial?

Windswept in horses will sometimes cure itself. I think it is do to uneven pressure on the growth plates of the legs while in-utero, resulting in uneven growth. Once they begin to put even pressure on them they can begin to correct themselves. But, not always. You usually put them in a...

Is Molly Pregnant?- Yes she was! new pics 4-2

Congratulations!!! What great pics. Mom looks so peaceful. Araylee: ya, Boers can have 2,3 or 4, some come off of the main teat. All are not always functional. When we first got into goats, we had dairy and showed them. We got our first Boer and I didn't know this about them. I about flipped...

    Levamisole - Prohibit

I agree with CMjust0. If that is the amount of medication in a pkg. (I didn't have one to look at), then that would be the correct conversion from g to mg. and then mls for total kg. I am a nurse and can vouge for the math but I can't say that that is indeed the recommended dosage rate. Sorry...

Tea Tree oil? for cold sores?

I use it full strength on my cold sores, bug bites, burns, etc. It burns a little but not bad. Although, it is always recommended to dilute pure essential oils in a carrier oil. You could dilute in a little sweet almond oil or even olive oil. It works really well for lots. I just used some...

    Levamisole - Prohibit

I'm glad your checking it out. I wouldn't want you to OD them. There is another forum I visit that has always been very good on info and they say:' "give 2 Tablets/100 lbs (3.5mg/lb) or 1 oz/100lbs--5mg/lb. But again I have never used it. I know with other wormers like the Cydectin Sheep...

    anyone feed Sericea Lespedeza hay

I don't know about the orchard grass but we had some hay with Timothey and ours did not eat it well at all. But, you know they are all different. Some of mine LOVE sunflower seeds and some won't touch them???:)

    Levamisole - Prohibit

I have never used the this wormer but I have a friend that has with no problems. I know you just have to be very accurate with weights. Too figure the amount it should tell you the strength after reconstitution. Like, ?mg/?ml. Then take the weight of your goat in pounds, divide it by 2.2...

Is there a way I can give my goats Vitamin B by mouth?

Well, I assume you are talking about B12 which is a prescription strength supplement only available through a vet where I live. You can buy regular B12 people vitamins and crush them up and give with feed. This is assuming the goat doesn't have some type of issue with absortion of nutrients...

    anyone feed Sericea Lespedeza hay

There was a big article about this and a couple of other hay/grasses being natural wormers in the "Goat Rancher" magazine a year or two ago. It was pretty interesting. If I remember correctly, Lespedeza and some others are supposed to be naturally high in "Tannins" which supposedly are natural...

How do you set your prices...

I agree, I'm not aiming at the person who wants a pet or two. Dairy whethers and some of the cross or smaller hobby breeds go relatively cheap here. But if you are breeding/feeding a larger number of goats/horses/dogs whatever the animal, you just can't afford to loose much money or you won't be...

How do you set your prices...

I agree. I have a friend who sells cheaper and I realize that is her business. So if they come to me looking and I price a "fair market price", they think it is too high. I try to adjust, considering if I sell straight off the farm, I don't have to pay auction fee, gas to market and time...

    breeding half siblings

Don't they say "good results = linebreeding, bad results = inbreeding.":D The closest I have ever bred is a doe to granson. (I'll let you know how that turns out in about 3 weeks). My understanding is that it enhances the good and the bad traits, so you have evaluate both and try to figure out...

    breeding for fall babies

Glad someone asked this. We too had a few girls that didn't settle and were considering breeding for late Oct./early Nov. We usually spring kid here but hated to miss a year on these girls. We raise Boers so they are year round breeders but I have never noticed signs of them being in heat during...
