I, as my username says, breed Lionhead rabbits. I started out a few years ago. I have stock from really good breeders in the area. These rabbits would be great if you're looking for pets, just starting out, for a 4-H/FFAer, or even someone who's been in the hobby for a while. Many colors...
That's a load of crap...
First off, Lionheads have the same problem as Netherland Dwarfs do when it comes to type. You need good type, with a nice headmount, and good bone structure. Nethies have been around longer, so yes, they're going to have better type overall. The mane does throw a...
I advertise in the pets section and the farm and garden section. In the pets section, I talk about how they (my pet quality rabbits) would make great pets, they're cute, they're friendly, etc. Nothing about meat, showing, or breeding.
In the farm section, I say they make great brood and show...
I disagree. Most breeders I know (and I agree with them) say not to mess with teddies and to cull them from your breeding program. The gene doesn't improve mane, it just adds the teddy gene and makes it pop up more.
I use craigslist, but I also network with other breeders on facebook groups. The latter I use especially for my better quality rabbits. I also advertise my show quality stock on craigslist, but I prefer to sell my better rabbits to breeders I know personally.
This happens to be quite a lot, especially with one doe in particular. If she does it, she is showing dominance. But she is also showing that she is ready to breed and wants the buck to get done with it already.
Well, I know in the Lionhead community, a lot of breeders cross their Lions with Netherland Dwarfs because Dwarfs and Lions are almost identical in type. But because Dwarfs are more established as a breed and are a more popular breed, their type is usually better than Lions. Sometimes breeders...
I'm in 4-H and FFA. I've been involved with my 4-H poultry club for five years now. I'm the vice president and, even though I'm a senior, I'll still be young enough to participate as a member next year, so I plan on running for president. Unfortunately, I'm not an FFA officer, but I help out...
Okay, so all the breeders I talk to recommend papaya. I went out and bought some, and I'm feeding it to my rabbits now, but what exactly is the purpose of it? I read online that it aids in digestion and helps prevent woolblock. Is that it?
I used to keep my doe and buck together, even when the doe kindled. The buck was a great dad and never hurt the kits, and the buck never rebred the doe (though disabled and much slower than him).
I would never do that again, though. Just for safety precautions. Especially with the does I...
My blue doe, Blueberry, kindled last night! I'm so excited because recently (for the past few months) I've been having horrid luck with breeding and such. (Uninterested bucks, inexperienced does making inferior nests which causes kits to die, etc.)
But yeah, now I'm not so discouraged. I think...
Oh, I'm sorry. I put the wink there to make it sound less condescending and mean... I'm really sorry.
And it was more of a joke... not a true statement. So once again, I am sorry.
My vegetarian friend commented on this link when I posted it on facebook. She's against the article's opinion. While she doesn't agree with people who eat meat, she thinks it's wrong to favor "cute" animals like cats, dogs and rabbits, and only eat "ugly" animals like chickens, cows, pigs, etc.
That's why they changed the COD to allow 2" of flank wool. If you really want to put your opinion in there, talk to a breeder with a COD, or get a COD yourself. ;)
They are only working on the three, to focus all of their energy and effort. Once they get those colors accepted, though, the breed at large will be accepted, and they can work on the rest of the colors.
I don't mind the flank wool, but I understand why the standard calls for none: The breed's...
It just proves how distant America is from their food supply. Rabbit is technically still considered a livestock animal...
Why should rabbits be protected as much as a cat or dog, when they can provide us with a useful product? I consider my rabbits pets, but I consider my chickens and ducks...
