mabey you could ad a guenia pig tab under the raabit section becuase there has ben alot of geuina pig talk recently
Not a bad idea but they need their own section. There is a difference in how rabbits and guinea pigs are cared for. There are lots of things that rabbits can have but guinea pigs can't. Just like goats and sheep, they are similar but both have different needs.

My thought on this is that rabbits are viewed as a livestock animal (and this is a livestock forum) and in the US at least guinea pigs are viewed as pets. Though in Ecuador guinea pigs are raised as livestock and eaten (they are called cuy there).

I'm gonna play both sides of the fence here.

They are pets in the USA. They are livestock internationally. We are an international forum.

So the question is in my opinion....is the demand for a new section for Guinea Pigs / Cuy based on them being pets or as them being livestock?

I think you should let the section do both !!! If they are considered Livestock I would lean to the livestock approach though.... :caf

Just to be clear, the decision to add or not is not mine to make - I'm just asking some questions.

All of the recent posts that I've read have been about guinea pigs as pets. I think (again personal opinion) that in order to be a category here on BYH there would need to be some demand for them as a livestock animal.

To be perfectly honest, if I were presented with a plate of cuy then I would try it. I'm sure my family would have a lot to say differently about that though. ;)

Keep the good ideas coming :)

Honestly, it is more about the demand and volume of posts and less about pets / livestock. If there is enough discussion about something, we will consider a new section for it... guinea pigs, bees, whatever. :D

first it is cavy and second if you don't think you could make whole section for cavy (which we probly could) we could always go back to the idea of one link under a section. :frow

I have rabbits and i would never kill them i dont even eat rabbit, but there is a ton of useful in formation on this site. Alot is useful because i show rabbits and that involes alot of the same stuff as breed ing for meat. There are gueina pig shows as well. :thumbsup
