For some reason the "coffee" thread is not showing up on my alerts so didn't catch the sad report on the loss, @Mini Horses . It is always sad for them to go, but as you said, he had a good life and you gave him all he deserved. Plus, he had a little extra fun a couple years ago with that "OOPS" foal ... so he still "had it"....

I have my 2 subaru's... outback and forester... so no trunk but the "hatch back"... I couldn't lift out of a trunk anymore either... and when I got divorced all I had was a little plymouth duster.... hauled feed and hay and EVERYTHING in it until I bought my only NEW vehicle... a 1979 F-150 2wd supercab, leftover when the 80's came out....

The 2 subaru's are great for hauling smaller things, feed, etc... that I need to keep inside and not get wet. But I like my little Ranger pu and we have all the farm pu's that are 3/4 and 1 ton for the heavy stuff...and of course the Explorer from my parents... it's like the Sunday go to meeting vehicle... DS uses it to go to the dr in Blacksburg at least once a month... and when he has to go any distance since most all the trucks are hitched to a trailer... and most are farm use tags so not good to go gallivanting all over... although they seldom ever would qualify for getting stopped since they LOOK like farm vehicles.

I couldn't be without at least 2 vehicles...but I have more flat tires than anyone I know....gotta take the one with 4 "round tires" to get the air tank to blow up the "only flat on one side" tire to go to the co-op to get it fixed....easier than trying to change it since it is nearly always a nail/sock/wire/screw in it....

Heard about the heat wave stuff in TX and talked to @Baymule last night... said she was standing there dripping water.... I don't think I could take that kind of heat. You can always put on more clothes to get warm in the cold or turn the heat up once in the house... and the animals manage okay if they have protection from cold rain and the wind... but you can only take off so many clothes and if you work outside in it.....UGH....

Thinking about putting the rabbits in the xpen one at a time as they have bad zoomies.
If you mean scours, remove all feed and only give straw and wood chips (pine is good) for several days. The roughage will clear up the scours. That method was given to us by Charlie Coons 40 years ago. This was before there were any meds for rabbits and the only cure for a disease was a knock on the head. I cured any outbreaks of scours in my barn with this method, including bad one gastro-intestinal thing that was going around through the show circuit. Lots of people lost rabbits but we used Charlie's trick and they pulled through.

Charlie had been breeding rabbits since he was a child. He was in his 70's when we started in rabbits 40 years ago. He was one of the "great old men" in the rabbit world here in Southern California. He loved NZWs but the last rabbits I bought from him were 2 trios of Cals he had from a friend. If his rabbits were not good enough to make champions based on meat and conformation quality, they went into the pot. Heavy culling gave him some of the best rabbits anywhere. All three old fellows, Charlie Coons in Palmdale (NZWs), George Sutherland in San Gabriel Valley (Havanas, Spot, and Rex), and the 3rd member whose name I can't remember in Long Beach (Cals), were so generous with their knowledge to everyone. They are still missed.

Amego went peacefully, I'm sure. He was laying on sternum, all legs tucked, neck up and just looked like his head dropped into the bed of clover where he was. 💓 Sad but calming at the same time. I cherish that, knowing he was at rest when his time came.
So much better than when they sicken and you have to d the right thing and put them down. My last mare went like that, just went out in the morning and we found her that afternoon where she had died. Peaceful, no needles, at home in retirement.
:hugs

I meant Zoomies like ZOOM! ZOOM! running fast around the cage like a pinball. But I really appreciate the information. I will write it down for future reference.

I grew up down in that area. I was born in La Canada, and spent most of my life in Tehachapi Too bad I wasn’t raising Rabbits back then, maybe I could’ve met Charlie

Do you mean mucoid enteritus? Ghastly stuff, poor rabbits died in great pain, teeth clenched on the wire. Mucus came out along with stinky diarrhea. After seeing a few of them die, if I couldn’t save them, I knocked them in the head to end their suffering.

I used a formula from the vet, kaopectate, paragoric and something else I can’t remember. Had to take it to a pharmacy and the pharmacist called the vet to make sure I wasn’t lying about it and that it really was for rabbits. It did the trick and my rabbits started surviving. That straw and pine shavings thing sounds like good information to know.

I just got a text alert from Wood County Electric. I don’t live there anymore but it was interesting. Warning of multi day power outages because of the damage to infrastructure, power lines and transmission lines from the tornadoes in north Texas. A list of power outages for Wood County Electric Co-Op

I do not haul feed in my car. Need a chain hoist or a brawny set of arms and strong back to lift 50# bags out of the trunk. I have none of those. I will put 50# bags of dog food in the back seat, those are a lot cleaner than feed bags.
Oh man - for sure. I do haul feed -- but in my van - no seats in the middle - just slide out onto the roller cart. :)

That's what I thought you meant :) - must be a dog / puppy thing to call that the zoomies.
