So right now, it's raining! :celebrate Some thunder too.

Maybe 45 min ago, went out and threw some cabbage scraps to "whoever" got there first -- sprinkles, clouds. Rushed back through to front door and out to close windows in car & truck. Been upper 80s hot and didn't know this was coming but GLAD...hope we get a couple hours, been a good, solid rain so far!

We NEED a couple days of steady, all day rains. The grave digging yesterday showed dry dirt at 4' & only slightly moist beyond and at 7'. That's too dry! Corn field next door was curling. They got all the hay off fields across the street.

Actually got more than 20 drops... had a thunderstorm come up, we were on the northern end of the radar's reporting... we wound up with barely 1/10 inch... temp dropped 15 degrees... didn't last near long enough or put down enough....but it was still better than nothing. Hit here about 1:30... about 20 miles south they got downpours and hail.... It did wash the dust off the leaves of everything, but the ground was dry except for the surface.
I am going out to get the soaker hoses I have into the garden. The kit that comes with the 100 ft soaker hose has fittings that I cannot even begin to get to work. They are way too big to stuff into the end of the hoses... it says to warm the hose up... it was out in the sun and it felt very warm and pliable and I cannot even begin to get it to work it's way into the hose. NOT very happy with that.
So for now I am taking out the ones I have and getting them laid out. Will move the hoses if I have to to do more tomorrow.

Glad that DS did get all the hay up yesterday.... There is alot down around here still, but .1 inch is not going to hurt it much. It doesn't look like there will be anymore forming here so should be clear until Monday when there is a 60% chance for several days... We'll take it.... That's the first measurable precip since June 1st....

Needed a drink and going back out there to lay out the hoses that I have put together. I cut out the couple of leaks and reused the other "repair ends" I had... the old 1/2 inch hose repair ends works in these... but do you know that most places only have hoses with 5/8 or 3/4 inch I.D. now.... no more 1/2 inch I.D. hoses sold anywhere that I have seen. I found some of the "male and female" repair ends on the internet...had 2 in my stash of misc hose stuff with the washers; several different places... so ordered some to use. I am seriously thinking about taking the 100 ft, cut to length one back, and ask them how you put the ends in them. Maybe just return the whole thing... could just use the ones I have, use the 1/2 inch repair ends that are ordered, and buy another one with the ends on it... going to take the tape measure out and see what the average length row is ..... and could buy a couple like 25 or 50 ft, with the ends already on if they would do the job and not deal with this deal.
When I used the set of male/female ends I had on the 5/8 inch hose that had the leak, I simply had the hose in the sun, it got warm and a little softer, and managed to shove them in without too much trouble... so I know that I am not imagining the problems I am having with these connectors in the kit. I even tried to see if the hose was supposed to shove inside them, since they are way too big to go inside the hose. Really, they are way too big. I tried them on my older hose thinking maybe it was looser or more stretched out... NOPE.....

Frustrated.... Oh well... out to see what else I can get done.

Heard about the heat wave stuff in TX and talked to @Baymule last night... said she was standing there dripping water.... I don't think I could take that kind of heat. You can always put on more clothes to get warm in the cold or turn the heat up once in the house... and the animals manage okay if they have protection from cold rain and the wind... but you can only take off so many clothes and if you work outside in it.....UGH....
We had storms all night, four rounds. Trees down, power out for hours. Yesterday we set a record for highest humidity. I don’t know if if “real feel” is the same as the heat index but it’s 114 presently. I had a two hour drive with a busted ac today. Work outside is very deliberate, no hurrying. LGDs are taking a break inside and will return to work at sundown. Sheep and chickens are safe. Freezer stayed cold. I’ve sent Hubbs for take out while I feed all the animals. Looks to be more of the same tomorrow.

Sounds like a similar problem I had with my drip irrigation. Fancy spray end - I suffered through 2 years of trying them - grrrr - even a hot micro line was tough to get the thing into. Finally bit the bullet last month and bought some from Home Depot (not Amazon) and they work like a charm - fit perfectly without the dang headache of the others.
You're definitely not imagining it.

I hope today is better for you. It is so hot and miserable, I think the 114 is the feels like heat index. I hope your power is back on.

Coffee is ready. Woke up at 3:30 AM. Dogs were barking mad last night after I went to bed. Walked out on the porch and I could hear the coyotes. I called out Good Dogs! I talked to them a few minutes and went back to bed. Hoping Tiny had her lambs last night, her sides had bumps sticking out, little legs poking her from the inside. Poor girl! I’ll graze the ewe crew in the yard this morning, lots of Bahia.

The fast rains I got late day yesterday were outskirts of a big storm front going 60 miles north of me. Wow, they got pounded with wind, hail, 2.5-3" of rain. Lot of trees down, roof damages, etc in those areas. We got about 1/2"..… really needed more but not the other stuff. I had a few clothes on the line -- my worst damage, wet again. No problem. We had rains predicted for M-W but, now Thu-Sun, 4 days and suggesting much heavier rain. We do need it. So no complaints.

Cool, damp, clean smelling morning, 60*. Of course, with rain, it's really wet out there in grasses. Everyone still in dry barns 🤣. I'm contemplating a wet walk out there for milking chores shortly. Won't do much else today until things dry some.

A call earlier in week for buying a young goat for BBQ, pick up late today. We'll see. Second call from them, so good possibility 🤷 just means I have to separate a few boys for sale. Need to anyway, so it's ok -- at least from in house, having coffee  might change mind when time to do the round up!! Will start plans and herding chutes after milking!!
