Beautiful morning, hard frost though. So BIL calls about husky. Dog is staying at his home and in conflict with his household, because of unknown incident at niece’s apartment. BIL can control dog but niece cannot. I told him to find a Husky Rescue and lay down the law to niece- no dogs until she is paying her own way in the world. I was nice about it but told him he would have nothing but escalating trouble and expense. Lord forbid the dog bites niece while she’s trying to crate it for its daily umpteen hour incarceration. BIL thinks returning the dog to niece will teach her a lesson and that surrendering the dog will be too expensive. This snowball is gonna roll downhill…
What lesson is she gonna learn? That dog is going to snap and bite her face off. Then it will be destroyed and it will be Miss Facebegone’s fault.

Husky's are super active, and they do not take well to being crated at all.... it is not in their DNA.... What @Baymule said is right... the dog will bite her, injure or damage her perhaps, badly, and the dog will be destroyed with nothing accomplished, except pain and suffering for the niece.

They need places to run... and should NEVER EVER be kept in an apartment.... they are as high energy or more than any of the border collies and cattle dogs.... and they have a high prey drive.... I have never known anyone that had them that had small livestock like chickens, or cats..... they will kill them right now. A friend's parents had one that she got to where she hated it because it would try to kill her cat... and the parents had experience with training dogs and such... they finally gave it to someone that wanted to use it for sled dog training... and it was GREAT for the new owner... this was when I was a kid... and everyone that I have known of since then has been focused on killing livestock and such...
Yes, other breeds will attack and kill livestock... but husky's are very very prey driven.

@Baymule and @farmer Jan. You all make excellent points. I did my best to advise but my BIL wasn’t very receptive. His whole family’s (birth family and marriage) experiences with dogs are with small mixed breeds. I suspect one lesson to be learned is how much repairing sheet rock and carpet might cost. My only other comment is that if niece loves the dog as much as she claims to, she will see it placed in a better home. Ironically she is in school to be a zookeeper. I hope she gets direction from there on how to go forward. We sent a pinch collar and prayers. I repeated my warning to rehome the dog, the sooner the better.

Thanks to everyone for following this drama. It’s very frustrating. But it’s made me appreciate my own dogs who mosey out with the flock. And back in again. I also appreciate Hubbs who kept his rural midwestern common sense and helps with animal issues. I’ve made mistakes with dogs. A very wise Anatolian spent a couple of hours with me one afternoon that I’ve never forgotten. A couple of ewes too. And there’s Flogburn, who I had to whack again, may need to look at recipes…. Anyhow I’ve done what I can for now.

@Skiesblue about Flogburn, he’d make a nice pot of soup.
Story:
I had a mean rooster that hit me every chance he got. My middle granddaughter was 2 1/2 years old. She went outside with me to do chores. I kept telling her that I was gonna kill that mean rooster. She would reply “Kill that rooster!” One day I’d had enough and I did kill that mean rooster.

Next time she came, I cooked Mean Rooster Soup. She ate 3 bowls of Mean Rooster Soup, asking, “Put some more of that rooster juice on there.”

Thereafter, she would ask for mean rooster soup. Her Mamaw kept a good supply of canned old laying hens, and was able to comply. Recently she asked if I was ever going to have any more Mean Rooster Soup. Guess it’s getting time for me to have chickens again.

Day 3 or more and the cat is still being holy terror at night and I'm not getting any sleep. Not much I can do as it would just anger the wife. I'm going to need the whole pot of coffee at this point. Hope the idea of moving Pooch out the pole barn and locking her up in his old house at night works.

Mean rooster soup 🤣 I’ve got replacements for him in the background. He does take good care of his hens, escorting them around the pasture and sharing tidbits. He also stops the gang-shagging that leaves hens with bare backs. I’ve got a broody on eggs in the sheep barn. If she can hatch her eggs I’ll have anew generation and hopefully perpetual chickens and eggs.
