Dexter milk Cow/calf pair - western WA

Thanks. I've enjoyed having them, but have also found that horses really are my passion and cows, not so much. They have been fun, but I am not heart-broken to have them move on to a new home. I would love to see them go to a 4H home since the cow has the sweetest personality ever.

Dexter milk Cow/calf pair - western WA

I have a coming 4 year old cow with a 7 month old heifer calf at her side. I bought them in July as a milk cow. She has been amazing and trained easily, but we are in a situation that I need to sell them. Cow is dehorned, calf is not (pasted, but the paste didn't take, so now there are horns)...

    Uterine infection, your experiences?

We did a round of tetracycline and then lutalyse then rebred her. So far so good. She was short cycling 10 days after breeding. It has been 9 days and I'm not seeing any signs of her coming back into heat. That's not to say that she actually settled so I will do a blood test on day 30 to see...

    Uterine infection, your experiences?

It looks like my Nigerian Dwarf doe has a low grade/sub clinical uterine infection. Thus she hasn't settled this year from multiple breedings. Our plan is to do a round of antibiotics (oxytetracycline) then Lutalyse to bring her into heat and breed again. **fingers crossed** She has really good...

    Biotracking Day 28?

I just sent in a 25 day post breeding test. Biotracking said that it could possibly come up positive. We got a negative back. For us it was worth it because the next time we can pull blood on this particular doe will be in several weeks, so we went ahead. We were mainly checking another doe and...

    Doe not pregnant

Thanks for the info. Right now I'm really hoping that she just showed signs of heat, but is actually pregnant. I will be able to draw blood and test next week. If she comes back negative then I will chat with my vet and probably put her on a coarse of antibiotics and then try lutalyse. It's...

    Doe not pregnant

I have a doe that I bought in milk this last summer, she should be on her fourth freshening this year. But I can't get her pregnant! I had a buck come stay with us for several weeks. My other doe is confirmed pregnant, but this doe did not take that time around. 3 weeks later she came into "holy...

    selling goats

Just FYI, I have a goat listed on craigslist and she is not selling. I normally don't have any trouble selling them through CL, but at this time of year it is rough. It doesn't look like any of the goats are selling on CL around here (WA state). So, just be aware that you might try selling now...

    Doeling too loud!

Thanks. I thought I had her sold. :-( I tried Hoobly with no luck at all. I think it's just the time of year. I now have her priced well below what she is worth and actually below what some of the non-registered goats are going for. Gah! Here is her ad if you want to give any feedback...

increasing milk production in Nigerian Dwarf doe.

First, if you want the milk wean the baby. I wean at 8 weeks. Milk twice a day. If you still want more milk, you can milk 3x day and that will start to increase the milk. You can feed alfalfa (or alfalfa pellets). Make sure she has plenty of water. Water = milk. I also add a handful of Golden...

    Doeling too loud!

I've just had her on craigslist. I've always had really good luck with that before. I haven't even gotten one email! *sigh

    Doeling too loud!

I'm afraid of getting another doeling just to have two that are loud. My price is already down to where the non-registered goats are priced. I'm not seeing anything sell and many ads have been up for a month or two. I might give her another week (unless my neighbors complain) and then drop her...

    Doeling too loud!

I have a doeling that is 5 months old and too loud. We live in a suburban neighborhood and I don't want her to cause our neighbors to try to get rid of all our goats (we only have 2 other milking does). I'm trying to sell her and have never had this much trouble selling a goat! I have her up...

    A few kid questions

I did that for one of mine and it worked great. I put the baby in the kennel in the same stall with the adults. I also only ever just let them eat with the adults out of the same feeder and gave them a small bowl with a handful of feed in the kennel at night. -K

    CD/T vaccine

Thanks. Will it be a problem to have 2 more doses after only 4 1/2 months of the original dose?

    CD/T vaccine

I have a doeling that is just about 5 months old. My "herd" consists of 2 does and this doeling. We milk the does and drink the milk raw, and we are in an area that they don't come into contact with any other farm animals, so I don't usually vaccinate my own goats for CD/T. I do give it to...

    Whole kernel corn?

I started mixing my own feed to specifically get away from feeding corn. Have you considered going that route? I do oats, barley, BOSS, alfalfa pellets, and calf manna (which probably has some corn, but much less than they were getting when I was feeding preformulated feed). -K
